BURGER KING

4:14 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
The famous American fast food chain BURGER KING finally made it to Hyderabad and today i was invited as a part of the tasting session on a pre launch event here on Saturday. The store is located on the 3rd floor of sujana forum mall in kukatpally, which is quite famous for the weekend crowds.

The store is a limited seat quick service restaurant, which has a wide range of menu for the patrons who look for something tastier and quicker. Their whooper burger is their signature burger in which they are offering them in 3 variants, chicken mutton and veg. The mutton is also available with double patty and is a ground breaker for the people who would like the taste burst in their mouth. Its just juicy and succulent in the mouth with lots of flavors with majority of pickles.

Firstly i started with the cheesy fries which were served with the chili sauce and the cheese dip which was very good in taste and the flavors are awesome for me as they are less oily and good in flavor. The dips are accompanying the taste all the time.

The tandoori chicken burger was one of my favorite and the best of the burger is, they prepare the chicken patty in the tandoor and you will relish the flavor of tandoor in the very first bite with the mint mayo sauce which compensates the taste of the burger all the way. The specific Indian touch is evident in this burger and they didn't made it in desi version. The patty was made with the corn dust and it was soft and good in taste. I loved it and the spice level can be increased as per the palate. They will customize as per your order.

The chicken whooper and the mutton whooper burger are also made with the whole patty and the proportions of veggies to the meat is a bit on the higher side, and with the high concentration of sauce makes the burgers taste less on meat. The chicken strips are the best ones i have had, the honey chili sauce is the perfect accompaniment for the strips and you will love them along with the onion rings which are pretty bulk in size.

The 7 inch extra long were normal in taste, but they replicated the same bread which they serve in US and the filling was normal and a average burger fan can appreciate the real taste of it. The chicken was good for me with the mustard filing and the cheese strips.

In the deserts, they innovated a gems variant which is made with the vanilla ice cream and the gems crush. They promise you, that it can withstand gravity for a minute or so, which can indirectly tells us the consistency and the quality. I loved the gems crush and the vanilla flavor along, which was good. They have another in oreo version.

Overall, it was a great lunch with one of the best burgers in the world and we warmly welcome the burger king to Hyderabad and i wish them all the best for their future endeavors. Looking to hop in the near future.

Punjabi feast By dippy's kitchen

10:18 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella 1 comment
Dippy's kitchen is a home based outlet and it is run by the home chef dinesh purushottam. He  hails from mumbai and a retired actor from bollywood. He is in Hyderabad since january and he has a great passion for food and he specialized in more of the North Indian cuisine and Gujarati food. He runs his kitchen at his residence which is located in safilguda.

I was there at his place on a fine day, as i was invited for a lunch over conversation. His place is quite easy to locate. He maintained his home very well and he lives alone in his house. I loved the atmosphere and the ambiance of his place.

He prepared punjabi lunch for us, like

Dal makhni
Aloo gobi mutter
parathas
4 kinds of chutneys and pickle
jeera rice
chaas
blue berry cheese cake ice cream from kwality walls

He prepared himself all the stuff and i am amazed to see his energy levels to work for himself and he has got some serious skills, which one should acquire and learn to perfection.

We started with parathas, which are super soft and crunchy and are made with pure ghee which gave them an extra edge of taste which stood out. The dal makhni was given to accompany with which was very rich in texture and was topped with cream to have. The taste was as authentic as it can be. It was heavy and i could barely eat 3 parathas with that and that concludes the quality concerns.

Aloo gobi mutter was another item in the menu with which i had the paratha, which was done very well and the spice levels are very well balanced and i felt the taste of my mom. Its very impressive. The same is the case with the chutneys and pickles which he made.

The grilled muthiya was another star in the menu, which was prepared with the grated bottle gourd, cabbage etc. which was then made into paste and grilled over the pan, which gives you a solid texture and distinctive taste. The best muthiya i have ever had. It went well with the chili chutney which was made by the chef himself. Love the combination.

In the end we finished the meal with chaas, which was made with the high quality kiaro milk turned curd and was very thick indeed. For my sweet tooth cravings he had a solution in the form of the blue berry cheese cake ice cream from kwality walls which was impressive.

On a whole, my meal was filled with love and pampering by chef dinesh purushottam and i am completely flattered with his culinary skills and his top notch hospitality.

Will recommend this place for those who look for the authentic home made food, and a daily menu will be done on prior order.

CHILI'S New Menu.

11:48 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
The tex-mex cuisine is aiming for a standardised position in the Hyderabad food dairy, which has come again in the disguise of Chili's part two, which is located in the prime location of Banjara Hills. I was here with some of ,my foodie friends and we gathered here for lunch.
The place is quite catchy when you are on road no.1 banjara hills towards GVK mall. The interiors are very good and colorful background with different poster boards of food and the upside down glass lights and the wooden carved chili's board name...will make your presence a bit more exciting about the place.

Coming to food, we started with some appetizers, followed by main course drinks and deserts. The classic nachos with cheese dressing were served in veg and non veg variants, which are very good with the mustard layered cheese dressing. The best part is the salsa which was tangy enough to compensate the cheese flavor in nachos. I loved it. The chicken variant is my choice which has got more flavor of sauces or the cheese.

Then we had the chicken appetizer platter in which we had different varieties of chicken made in different ways and are presented in one single platter for each of us. The bone less chicken wings, the winglets, kfc style chicken and the stuffed chicken with carrots. The cream and salad was the best accompaniment one can ask for such beautiful platter, which was very appetizing in both texture and taste. Among them i liked the bone less wings and the winglets which are spicy and tangy enough. The stuffed bone less chicken in a roll, was the best of the lot with lot of barbeque flavor and the chicken was tender enough for me to taste. The sour cream helped me to balance the flavors.

In the main course, i got the chicken steak and the fajitas. The chicken steak was served with much of breast part with the cream sauce. The chicken tasted good and the sauce was a bit dull in taste and needs some improvement. The fajitas were good, chicken and mushroom combination is not to miss.

In the quesadillas, they cheese and jalapeno variants in which i loved the jalapeno one, which was loaded with the cheese and jalapeno which gave me the whole flavor of the quesadilla and i loved it with the dry salsa. The cheese one is actually loaded with more cheese and the flavor was one less side, though i loved the cheese burst in my mouth with no thought of flavor.

The salmon steak was served with mixed bean rice and cream cheese sauce in which the sauce is the best part, which is a bit spicy and sour, which can be accompanied with the fish alone and rice mixed. The taste will be good after a while.
The drinks were served in between and my favorite among the drinks my favorite was POM-MANGO RITA, it is a combination of mango and pomegranate juice which is dominated with the flavor mango and the crushed ice will diminish the flavor if you wont consume it fast. The less the crushed ice,, the better the taste.

In deserts the choco lava cake and the cinnamon white chocolate cake are good and the cinnamon with white chocolate is my favorite with the molten white chocolate in between the vanilla ice cream and the cinnamon cake. The taste was excellent and cinnamon tastes a bit strong with the chocolate.
The service was very quick and prompt, the chef was around all the time explaining the dishes each and every one. Even i had a chance to visit their kitchen and on a whole it was a great experience with tex-mex cuisine at chili's and i will be back for their set menu which was quite impressive and will suit the needs of the office going crowd who looks out for some good change in their plans for lunch every now and then.

AB-Absolute Barbeque

5:27 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
What is your feeling, when you just stepped outside of the lift too see a lool of customers waiting outside the restaurant for their turn to dine in, since hours and you just make your way like walk on the water. That feeling comes with some price and pride. The pride is the feeling which comes when you dine in solo, to experience yourself all alone, with a separate seat just for your self and all the remaining seats watching you eat. I AM A FOODIE.....i eat like no one's watching me.
Just happened to experience the same scene today at AB's jubilee hills when i was on the thought of having lunch at this place. With no time wasted i was given the seat and i was comforted with a chilled beer and some starters. Among them i liked the chicken starter and the fish. The chicken was cooked well with the good tangy marination with which the juicy flavor was oozing out, which made me have the endless bites of it with the chilled beer. What better can be had other than this on a sunny day? I am impressed with the start.

With the heavy meal of starters and the beer, i continued to have the mutton seekh kebab, with rice corn cake and cheesy potato, along side with the grilled pineapple. The rcie corn cakes were soft and the batter was very soft and melted in my mouth, with an accompaniment of green sauce, with which it went amazingly good. The seekh kebab was dry and the moisture was less, but it was rectified as soon as possible and was served again with the necessary input from the chef. I liked it this time. The cheesy potato was soggy and the cheese was more of a chili garlic mayo and was tangy. I liked it. The grilled pine apple was one of the best starters i have ever seen and this stand among my all time favorite. I can eat them all day with out any break. The cinnamon coating on the outer side of the pine apple with a hint of white pepper will make you drool over this dish.
The main course was decent and i had butter chicken, veg biryani, AB's spl dal and curd rice. The butter chicken was decent but it was not the same butter chicken in which the chicken was not grilled/tandoor. The grilled flavor was missing, but the taste was excellent with the fine smooth texture. The veg biryani was more of awadhi type and it was decent with not much oil in it. The veggies were well cooked with masala on board. AB"S spl dal was made in dal makhni way with rajma and chana touch to the dal, which made it have the rich texture and the consistency. I liked it.

Among the desert platter, i liked the angoori gulab jamoon, mango cheese cake , ras malai. The ras malai, was good with the taste and the texture. gulab jamoon were small, but amazingly sweet.

With my personal server, pinaki, he made me available what ever i wished and what ever i wanted. I was pampered all the way and was teased with some jokes and was taken care in almost all the ways, where i left the feeling that i was having a solo lunch. Even after paying my bill, pinaki denied the tip and he asked me to take his name when ever i am around and he would be at my service and will treat me like his guest. This truely is the gesture of a hospitality industry and i was floored by the behavioral etiquette and their responsibility towards the customer, makes every one happy and a long lasting memory has been already imprinted in my mind.
With a thumbs-up to this place. Singing off.

Aam -e-khaas

6:13 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
Khandani rajdhani...ek food parampara...this restaurant is known for its Rajasthani and Gujrati flavors in their food and their typical feeding spoon service. Apart from that, yesterday, when they invited some of us ( food Bloggers) for their ongoing Aamalicious) a festival of mango based dishes in their menu.

When i got an invite, i got bored with the mango for the season and i though max they would shell out some aam ras along with some roti.. But the menu which was posted for the knowledge was way impressive and i was impressed with the dishes they stated out were, mind boggling. I never expected such dishes to be on their menu especially the aam festival has made it possible for me to relish their food.

The food started with their standard masala chaas, it was very thirst quenching and i am relaxed with that. Then they brought the aam panna, it was a masala mango drink which was also very tangy and sweet, which brought me back to the joy of food. Now i am charged and ready for the food love.

They served the  sprout salad, cutlet and the dhokla. with some green chutney and red chutney. The djokla was absolute disaster and it had no moisture and softness. The cutlet was no good to me as it was less crunchy and it was not hot.

Then they came up with the dal bati churma, and the chaat. The dal baati churma was served with ghee and it was good with the churma to have that extra sweetness with the baati and dal. Chat was good and decent.

Then they served us the vegetables among which i liked the aam ki launji, paneer sopta. They were soft and the flavor was excellent though. The paneer had the right amount of spicy taste which took me for granted and the cabbage was a little bland with no salt.

In dal section, i liked the aam ki kadi, as the dahi and the aam both came together with the blast in the mouth. The sweet dal A.K.A gujrati dal, was also good enough with enough spice in it. The roti was good and the puri which was served was oily and crispy, it got shattered away when i tried to have the sweet dal.

The kichdhi was good, the bland flavor with little salt is good enough for the veggies to complete with. The jeera rice was served with ghee and it lacked the flavor and was bland. Never liked it though. The pressure in the kitchen was evident.

The desserts were made in special for the day and they made the mango jalebi, fruit custard, mango lassi. The mango jalebi was a pure heavenly feeling when i had the first bite and i was never down from there till when i relished another one.
It was so soft and juicy that the mango strip was made to fry with the outer part of the jalebi which was even good. Fruit custard was decent and not a hit for me.

The legendary aam ras was the king of the show and we had lots of roti with the heavenly combination. It was a pure bliss to mention. The mango lassi was also purely delightful for me to end the meal. It was heavy and too dizzy for me to make a move from my table , as i relished the most heaviest meal on earth.

With the excellent service, we are happy for the staff and managemnet of Rajdhani for hosting us for the lovely evening and hope they will continue their consistency in terms of the food at all times during the festival.

Soda bottle opener wala

6:36 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
If you have a boring day at work, or if you are out of mood from the regular things. Then you need a place which is quite different from all the odds to get your mood back with a twist. such place comes with the twist of taste in their menu with a totally different cuisine which is very new to Hyderabad late off. SODA BOTTLE OPENER WALA, is the new restaurant in the vicinity of the posh lanes of jubilee hills will be a perfect host for the short bites, casual time pass cafe and some serious food destination. What ever the mood, you can fit in the right place and music.

When they announced their opening date i am one of those food enthusiasts who was very excited to try their food on they very first day and as per the plan i have landed and it was on invite.

As soon as i entered the lobby was quite of a Irani shop with jars full of old school chocolates like mango bite, poppins, orange candy etc.. and some artistic stuff to boast the Irani theme. I liked it very much to the nativity they brought it close to the authentic classy look. The one i saw in bangalore and Hyderabad had some similar stuff but...each has its own set of themes for the people to enjoy. The running train, the funky terms and conditions and some cutlery stuff made to convey the style of the theme.

To start with the food i asked for the parsi choy, which was a black tea made with ginger, lemon and mint which i made more comfortable with the brown sugar which was extraordinary to start a meal with a hot drink.

Coming To food what I liked most

Bhendi bazaar seekh parantha

Chicken farcha

Vada pav

Eggs kejriwal

Kolmi fry

Masala pepsi

The seekh kebab was amazing and the moisture in it was an invite for the kebab to taste and declare that the aroma and flavors wont evaporate even it is warm. The parantha was crispy and went very well along with the kebab. One can purely enjoy the bliss of the parsi cuisine with this dish.

Chicken farcha was a fried chicken which was covered with egg. This chicken was boneless and the egg chicken combination was absolutely delicious. The coating of salt and chili powder made it even more tastier. The fresh coriander chutney is an additional complimentary to the taste.

Vada pav, the classic Mumbai style which you cannot avail in any part of Hyderabad. The freshness and soft pav with the vada was awesome with the salted green chili along with the tomato ketchup is pure bliss. I just can’t stop with one.

Eggs kejriwal, the name was very different from people think and it is a dish with half boil on pav with the masala drizzle. One should try to eat this in one gulp to enjoy the real taste. It was really amazing with the pav and this is my first time, though enjoyed it thoroughly.

Kolmi fry, was a prawn fry which was made with one of the best prawns and they are well cooked to the point that they melt out in the mouth in the very first bite. The green chutney was amazing on side.

Masala pepsi, which was not new but the jeera flavor which was very strong with the pepsi made me feel refreshing in the scorching heat. It was a stress buster for me.

Items which I liked moderately

Sali mutton

Berry pulao

Brinjal patio

Prawn patio

Caramel custard

Sali mutton was a dish of mutton garnished with potato sticks, the tomato base and the jaggery were not so equally blended. But the taste on the other side with potato sticks was very good. But overall somehow I didn’t connect with it. May be it was first time or not being aware of the flavors of it.

Berry pulao, flavor wise it was excellent, taste wise it had that blend of some caramelized rice with taste but the masala part was a miss. I expected a twist in the base of the rice which happened to be missing and I had to adjust with the top part which was amazing for me to taste along with the potato.

Brinjal patio- one word, I don’t know, but somehow the basic instinct of the taste buds was not happy with the flavor or the blend of spices. Would do more work in understanding the dish.

Prawn patio- it has got almost the basic masala and the onion part with the prawn which was cooked in the onion tadka. It was partly uncooked and tasted very normal to me.

Caramel custard- The presentation was very good and the taste at the first instance was a bitter and when inquired with the chef he said it is as it is and I used to have it the sweeter way. So couldn’t connect myself. But the new taste was also good, as I mixed it with the irani chai with brown sugar which gave me a splendid flavor. I loved the tea.

Over all the experience of the parsi cuisine was very good and the best part of the restaurant was they will be operational till night without breaks and the evening time is the best time to try out the quick bites at this place. With the service on a moderate note, would suggest this restaurant for those who are looking for the new cuisine and a different experience on a whole note.

Simply South-->Revival of Home food. ( by chef chalapathi rao)

11:59 PM Posted by Vishnu Kompella No comments
Simply south, is one of my favorite restaurants with which i regularly connect myself with the food when i am bored with the other cuisines or the regular food. Because the flavors or the taste or the quality which i get here reminds me of my second home and chef chalapathi rao makes the magic with his food.

Since a big fan of south Indian food and simply south, i just made it on the launch day of the second venture of simply south here at gachibowli. This restaurant is located in the same building where AB's and kfc share the same work space. It is located on the first floor. The new restaurant is well spacious and very comfortable for the family diners to make a big group with out any breaking of chains. Its almost a 70 seat capacity with a very big PDR having a capacity of 40-50 covers.

With the new introductions in the menu along with their regular and vegetarian menu....the whole menu was simply superb and reflected the missing charm in some part of the sections, which they added on public demand. They also made typical changes to the Hyderabadi part....and the new chef for the cuisine delivered it perfectly well. The taste, aroma and the quality is a par match to the simply south benchmark.

Today i ordered for the items which are totally new to the menu and all of them are chef's recommendation. i ordered for

Gosht goli shorbha

Dum ka murgh

Nizami tarkari

Kari melagu kozhambu

Parota
White rice
Butter milk

Badam halwa

Elaneer payasam

Gosht goli shorba was an flavorful extract of lamb cooked with the meat balls( dumplings). This was yakhni. And the aroma was absolutely brilliant and it is one of its kind and different from what we regularly have.

From the Hyderabadi part i ordered for the dum ka murgh, and nizami tarkari. The dum ka murgh was very well cooked and the consistency of the gravy was perfect with the oil layer on the top. The chicken was very tender and the flavor of the tandoor was ofen felt with the very first bite of the chicken and it went well with the veechu paorta, which i ordered along with the curries.

Nizami tarkari was a vegetarian dish which was made with the mix vegetables and the flavor was very good with a hint of the light gravy which made it go well with the rice. The oil is excess on its part but liked to the flavor.

Then i ordered for Kari melagu kozhambu...this is a typical chettinadu mutton dish, the well cooked tender mutton is then again cooked in the spicy gravy of chettinad spices, which is flavored with coconut milk and pepper for the better taste and texture. The very first bite of it will give you a punch in the face with an explosion of pepper and you will like it at the very first bite. Having had the mild gravy of dum ka murgh. I experienced the richness of the chettinad gravy which gave me enough time to enjoy it thoroughly with either parota/rice. ( Suggested to order)

Getting finished with my main course, one of my friend ( vishal ferandes) also dropped in and we continued to share the remaining items.

I ordered for the desert again with the new list consisting of elaneer payasam and badam halwa.

The elaneer payasam was way too good with the rice texture of the reduced coconut milk with tender coconut pieces in it, to gave a heavenly feel of the dish. The very first bite gave me a feel of the parupu pradhamam another desert which had the same blend of cocnut milk in it. Which resembles it to be in the border of Tamilnadu and kerla.

The badam halwa was also very consistent in texture, color and taste. It was very light and the badam taste was very pouring.

I ended my meal with a butter milk, which was made with a dash of garam masala and coriander powder. It was very good and consistent taste.

The final part of the meal would be a good pan to finish with. Had a sweet pan which was available in the counter.

With the good service, good food and good tradional back ground of the food journey, chef chalapathi rao has made his mark in the vicinity of the gachibowli, where a proper south Indian food is a scarcity. With his addition of his culinary experience, south Indian food lovers will definitely embrace the new place and i wish the management and staff a very big all the best and hope they do their best to make their way a long one.

Till then,,,happy eating.
